Training & Educationsteth_books

We have been approved as a training practice and fully qualified doctors who have previously worked in hospital medicine, but are now hoping to specialise in family medicine, come to Northam to gain experience and training in general practice.  The time can vary from six months to one year.  We also have newly qualified doctors and medical students who have placements in general practice as part of their medical training.

Video cameras may occasionally be used to help the doctors analyse and improve their consulting skills.  Your written consent will always be specifically sought beforehand.  You are free to decline or withdraw your consent at any time.  Any video recordings made will be seen only by the doctors involved in training and erased after use.

Keeping up to date is extremely important to all members of the practice teams.  The surgery has a strong emphasis on training and education, and therefore supports a variety of students as they develop their career.  Patients are always asked for permission for a student to sit in on a consultation.

The patient contact is essential to the development of all staff.  Through this continual learning the surgery is able to deliver the best quality care in all services.  Where we think that things have gone less well, care is reviewed by the multi-disciplinary team and learning points are taken forward to prevent recurrence in the future.
